Festive party dresses to take you from day to night
With the festive season just peeking around the corner, there is no better time than now to start planning your party wear. As usual this year, many of us will find ourselves having to throw together outfits to attend events of all varieties - from the casual Christmas lunch to the formal end-of-year function. That's why in association with New Estée Lauder Sensuous Noir, we have rounded up some of the best party looks to take you from day to night.
Day to night challenge #1: Lace
Result: Lace is often a tricky trend to pull off. If not styled properly it can either look a little old ladyish or over the top for the office. With this pretty black and nude lace number, the trick is to tone it down by throwing on a black knit cardigan or vest and adding a pair of flats. Night time is when this dress works its best. Don't hold back - include a chic blazer or shrug and get a little glam with a pair of sparkly stilettos.
Products (L-R): Dorothy Perkins black knit waistcoat, £26; Christian Louboutin patent leather flats, £306.38; Oasis lace dress, £50; Topshop shawl collar tux jacket, £45; Faith 'Lasparky' peep-toe heels, £60.
Day to night challenge #2: Metallic
Result: Working a metallic dress for daytime definitely has its challenges. This one-shouldered Grecian frock is also poses a few style problems as it definitely spells party time! But with a casual trench jacket and printed scarf this piece can easily be translated into a wearable day outfit. Throw on a faux fur cropped jacket and a pair of sequinned heels and ta-da you have an instant evening ensemble.
Products (L-R): ASOS printed floral scarf, £15; Miss Selfridge stone mac jacket, £44; Topshop Grecian metallic dress, £115; KG by Kurt Geiger sequin pumps, £80; New Look cropped fur jacket, £30.
Day to night challenge #2: Maxi
Result: A maxi dress is another tricky trend to try and pull-off during the day. But for a more casual look simply try adding a denim or leather jacket, a scarf or some chunky jewellery, and a pair of flat sandals. For night time go all out by accessorising with a furry cape or stole and a pair of strappy heels.
