2010oscars_careymulligan.jpgBeating out stiff competition from Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley is Carey Mulligan, who has just landed the lead role in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

Cast to play Daisy Buchanan, Mulligan is set to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, who is in final talks to play millionaire Jay Gatsby. Toby Maguire will play Nick Carraway, narrator of the novel, in Luhrmann's multi-million remake of the classic F Scott Fitzgerald novel. Upon hearing of the news, Mulligan is said to have broken down in tears.

"Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan, I was privileged to explore the character with some of the world's most talented actresses, each one bringing their own particular interpretation, all of which were legitimate and exciting," said Luhrmann. However, specific to this particular production of The Great Gatsby, I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her, "Hello, Daisy Buchanan".'

Robert Redford and Mia Farrow starred in the 1974 adaptation of the film. I can't wait to see what this latest remake will look like!
