Taking a well-deserved bow yesterday was Sarah Burton, who unveiled her first collection for the house of Alexander McQueen. Stepping into the late designer's shoes, Burton proved herself as a worthy contender after presenting a stunning Spring '11 collection while staying true to McQueen's penchant for the grandiose. Paying homage to British paganism, models appeared pale-faced wearing romantic layers and sophisticated tailoring. Handcrafted pieces adorned with feathers and butterflies swarmed the runway and offered a nod to nature. Voluminous printed chiffon gowns, tailcoats, and a patchwork of embroideries left you realising Burton's recent admission about wanting this collection to be "softer" and designed by a woman for women.
