Oscar de la Renta denies he is ill and on the verge of retirement
While Oscar de la Renta should have been toasting the November cover of US Vogue in which Anne Hathaway is wearing one of his gowns, he was instead denying rumours that he is unwell and ready to retire.
Whispers regarding his health and the future of the company first started to do the rounds at New York Fashion Week. The designer was recovering from a hip replacement, but managed to walk out and give a wave during the finale of this S/S '11 show.
Then Page Six reported that he was "in the office taking meetings, but is weaker and takes naps to rest. There's speculation that staff and designers have recently been hired to prepare for a possible future with Oscar taking a lesser role."
This has since been denied by a spokesperson, who said: "Oscar happily is enjoying excellent health. He's putting in a full work day every day. Any new hires have nothing to do with the design process, and there is no plan whatsoever to even think of replacing him as the creative head."
