joannasykes.jpgIt didn't take Aquascutum long to find a new designer to replace Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz, who left the label in March and have since been tapped by Bally.

Central Saint Martins alum, Joanna Sykes, has been recruited for the role of design director, and will work on the house's womenswear, menswear and accessories collections. Her credentials include designing for Giorgio Armani and Alberta Ferretti. She also has her own label, Sykes, which she launched in 2007, and will continue to work on.

"My aim is to continue to create beautiful, relevant, understated clothes and accessories," said Sykes. "I want to combine this with a respect for Aquascutum's heritage [and] an appreciation of the groundbreaking fabrics the brand has pioneered." Despite the new appointment, Aquascutum's CEO Belinda Earl, ruled out the chance of showing the label at London Fashion Week, deeming it "too soon."
