As the outpouring of grief continues in reaction to the sudden death of Alexander McQueen, who took his own life on Thursday, his mother has been laid to rest at a burial held yesterday.
Around 100 friends and family of Joyce McQueen, 75, who passed away just days before her son's tragic suicide, gathered at a funeral service in East London. It is understood the family were considering postponing the service, but decided to continue as planned.
Meanwhile, tributes are pouring in for the designer. Model Olivia Inge was spotted outside McQueen's London home yesterday (pictured, left) laying a floral tribute and reading cards left by Louise Goldin amongst others.
Since his untimely death this week, sales for McQueen have gone through the roof with fashion fans grabbing clothes and accessories as mementos. At Liberty, sales have increased by a staggering 1400%, with his skull scarves proving the most popular item.
"People want a memento, and these scarves are such an easily identifiable one. Customers were buying them and putting them on immediately," said Kate Brindley, Liberty's head of press. Selfridges has also seen a "very significant and immediate uplift" in sales.
"We fully expect customers to want to buy something by him, anything, to keep as a memento, but also as a genuine tribute to his craft and spirit," said Selfridges' buying director Anne Pitcher.
