Christopher Kane: "Bloggers are scary"

christopherkane_styleawards2009.jpgBlogging is the new black... well, maybe. It's definitely something now that all the designers are chattering about it. Alber Elbaz recently admitted that he was "really scared of bloggers," and it seems as though Christopher Kane shares his opinion. He told Vogue.com:

"It's a bit mad, isn't it? It feels like it's happened all of a sudden and at some shows this season the front row was just all bloggers. I think it will die down though, and people know what they are doing. No one who wants to read a serious review of a show is going to look at what a 14-year-old thinks. But it has become more critical; people can say what they want about anyone on a blog without consequences and that's quite scary. There are real repercussions for a designer if a photo of something is leaked by a blog; it can be copied in a fortnight and that can really harm a business. You have to be much more careful now."

Aw, c'mon Chris we're not all that bad.

Christopher Kane: "Bloggers are scary" - Comments

The reason why bloggers are scary to the Christopher Kanes of this world is that they are not only not controlled, corporate voices but quite willing to point out when the Emperor has no clothes!

  • I think what Mr. Kane is saying is that the public forum has widened-- used to be traditional media had all of the say, and now, it's pretty democratic, isn't it? public opinion is powerful-- he knows that and so does the everyday blogger. what they say, once they put it out there, will be read by some or many. it can still influence and easily sway a reader. sometimes that blogger is a 14 year old, sometimes it's a 35 year old-- either way, nothing really goes unnoticed. i think he is right that at some point the playing field will level out-- we will listen to some in exclusion to others. the most compelling voices will be heard-- and really, age has nothing to do with it. b.s. is just as recognizable as a valid opinion.
