Tom Ford to launch womenswear label "very soon"
It's been whispered around circles for some time, with the man himself dropping a cheeky hint here and there. But now it's official - Tom Ford will launch a womenswear line!
The designer-turned-director went on the record with WWD today to confirm that he and his business partner, Domenico De Sole, are seeking financial backing. Although reluctant to specify a date, he did say that he plans to unveil a women's brand "very soon". Meanwhile insiders are speculating it could be as soon as autumn 2010.
"Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we'll be able to start [a women's collection] soon. If we don't, we may have to wait a while," Ford said.
"You know it will take me 18 months when I start, because [I have] to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there's a place for these clothes," he added.
Currently globe-trotting to promote his début feature film, A Single Man, the former Gucci creative director also revealed that he intends to make his next movie in London, where he also plans to set-up a new office.
"That's where my design studio is, and it was a little hard making [A Single Man] in L.A. because my design team had to come with suitcases full of clothes on the weekends for fittings".
Where can I sign up to be an extra, Mr Ford?
