Poll: Will Beth Ditto's collection get you shopping in Evans?

beth ditto evans collection denim skirt dress.jpg

After a fair amount of blogger hype and a celeb-studded launch party Beth Ditto's collection for Evans launched today, and it's great to finally see the entire collection. We're lusting after the acid wash denim skirt above, which retails at £35.

Evans have made a first by dropping their smallest size to a 14, a normal size by most people's measurements. This move serves not only to remove the stigma of going into a shop which stocks larger sizes it also means they are looking to appeal to a wide (sorry!) choice of women. Ditto's collection isn't short on style, I recently spoke to Evans' head of design, Lisa Marie Patrick who explained how committed and passionate Beth was in terms of her collection for the brand. This isn't the first high-trend collaboration for Evans, shoe designer Georgina Goodman lent her skills to their footwear collections for a few years.

What do you think, will Beth Ditto's collection get you shopping in Evans? Take our poll and let us know!

There are a couple of cute bits. But I wont be buying any of it. I'm under a size 14 so she's cut me out!
Really it would just be better if she campaigned for hipper stores to stock some bigger sizes. As soon as her collection goes nobody will shop their again.

I guess we now know how bigger girls feel, I want the denim skirt for sure!

We will be keeping a beady on Evans' A/W 09 collection and you can bet we'll pick out some gems.

"size to a 14, a normal size by most people's measurements"

So what, it's not 'normal' to be larger than a size 14? The national average is around a 16 I believe.

Sorry Fi, I probably didn't phrase that in the best way. I meant that shops for larger women start at size 16, and stocking size 14 means they realise the crossover potential of the collection which can only be a good thing!

If you pay attention to the papers it comes across that 10 is the most normal/desirable size, and I was just trying to point out that more people are size 14 than 10.

if a store made a big deal of a range for size 4 - 10 there would be outrage. But oh no, its ok to make exceptions for fat people. Just like its ok to criticise slim people. How many times have I heard people saying 'look at you, you're like a stick insect' like its some kind of compliment. As if any polite person would say to a size 14 lady 'look at you, you great whale'. The whole size debate is boring and Beth Ditto is obese and looks unhealthy. But until we tackle the real issues (eating the wrong foods and lack of exercise)lets get excited about clothes ranges to fit larger women. If I was a size 14 - 22 lady I would be feeling seriously patronised.

I won't be buying any of the collection unless I gorge myself on cake in the next couple of weeks. Whilst it's nice to see that stores are catering for larger women, as someone who falls in the 10-12 range, I often feel as if I'm too large for some stores, and too small for others such as Evans (which is a damn shame as they have some cute items!)

Bah!
