naomicampbell_Azzedine Alaia.jpgAmongst the sea of models at Monday night's Met Costume Institute Gala, one very famous face was missing... Naomi Campbell.

Why? Well, it seems Azzedine Alaïa is the reason.

According to reports, Alaïa was so displeased that Anna Wintour only allowed one photograph of his work to be displayed at the exhibition, he asked several supermodels including Naomi, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour, who were supposed to wear his designs to the gala, not to. This prompted all three models to pull out of attending all together.

"As Naomi has been the muse of Azzedine Alaïa for 23 years, she feels she doesn't want to attend unless she can represent his work," a spokesperson for Campbell said.

While Alaïa added: "[Anna Wintour] has too much power over this museum."

Exhibit curator, Harold Koda, claims that Anna has no involvement in curating the shows and said that the decision not to include Alaïa's designs was made due to the belief that the designer wouldn't consent to being a part of a group show. He added that he would like to offer Alaïa his own show one day, if the Met changes its policy one single designer exhibits.

Hmm... sounds like a bit of a poor excuse to me.
