Shrugs, capelets and harnesses

Waistcoat-love reached its zenith around the time of the first Kate Moss for Topshop collection, who didn't want her black and yellow striped vest? Now that waistcoats have been off the radar for sometime we're starting to see the mutated cousins of the waistcoat take centre stage.
A little top-half embellishment is a wonderfully easy way to pep up an outfit, and Etsy is just bursting with good shoulder solutions. I Heart Norwegian Wood is a consistent blogger favourite and its easy to see why. She's taken her cult harness and added some curved shoulder pads. It gives edge to jeans and tee, and I'd love to see what it looks like with a strapless gown for a fancy event. Jump through to read on and see larger images...

Ruffles galore with Holly Stalder's capelet, any blah outfit will instantly be livened up with this burst of texture. The rich berry colour is an added bonus and is surprisingly easy to wear. Lastly English Dept's bolero is most definitely bridal, but imagine it teamed with the plainest grey tee or a bodycon black dress and it becomes a must-have.

I actually really like the harness/waistcoat thing! Totally reminds of Queen Michele from kingdom of style's harness she designed ages ago. I have seen so many versions since that one, but this is good too with the extra shoulder pad bits.

  • I love the Holly Stadler wool caplet, the texture and volume would add great drama to a simple sheath dress for example. The English Dept organza bolero would be perfect for a wedding. I can see why there is a re-surgence in the caplet what with the 'big shoulder' Balmain craze.

Wrong time of year - but a lovely knitted wool caplet with big satin bow would be sylishly warm for winter...
