With one haute couture collection already under their belt, "newbie" designers at Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, may have thought they'd relieved a small weight off their shoulders. But the pressure to impress the important people must have still been felt, and the A/W 09 collection had a definite Valentino feel to it (previous creative director Alessandra Facchinetti was said to have been let go for not drawing on the house's archives).

Feminine draping, pretty pleats and luxurious fabrics combined with a sophisticated palette of black, beige and burgundy broken up with bolts of red, mustard, green and blue means Autumn/Winter will be as glam and ladylike as ever for the Valentino customer.
