Their candles smell of fashion Press Days, their scents are always namechecked by celebs and fashionistas like Alexa Chung and they always make gift wishlists in the glossies, but what is it that make Diptyque such a hit with the fashion set?

At a launch for the luxe French company's new range of 'L'Art du Soin' beauty products (pictured above) I spoke to Myriam Badault, their Director of Marketing, about why Diptyque is so popular with the fash pack, jump through to find out what she told us.

"Diptyque don't advertise, we're a bit of a beauty secret and our customers appreciate that. I think they also appreciate our creative spirirt; the design and consistency through out the range." Myriam went on to talk about some of their favourite customers including John Galliano, who they designed a candle with in 2003 which was a woody smoky confection reminiscent of incense.

She added "Our 'Figuier' perfume has elements of the whole tree, the bark, and the fruit; this helps to create an entire memory around the scent. When people come into our stores they tell us our scents trigger off memories, and it's because we create this abstract image through smell."

So there you have it, the secret behind a great fragrance is one that has a little bit of mystery and subtlety to it, there's nothing worse than putting together a knockout outfit than having it spoiled by something like a harsh fragrance.
