London Fashion Week: Peter Jensen A/W 2009
Watching Peter Jensen's LFW walkthrough I defy you not to let a smile creep over your face. 'Jytte', named after Jensen's Greendlandic aunt, was a mishmash of folksy and cheesy, all delivered with a heartwarming touch.
It was a charming swansong for a country which, from June 2009, will become independent from Jensen's native Denmark. Jensen sometimes seems like the Andy Warhol of designers, in that he is so talented at totally immersing himself in his subject you never completely get a feel for who Peter Jensen the designer is.
A lot of Greenland's national costume was lovingly reproduced, including the distinctive boots, and beaded capelets both of which will make it onto many a wishlist for Autumn. Cheery ruffled dresses, sheer anoraks and pompom-trimmed frocks completed the eclectic look, which you can bet will be popular with the Topshop audience that Jensen designs his Boutique collection for.
