MIA, Janelle Monae and Alison Goldfrapp all wowed musically and sartorially last year but I think that 2009 will be another year of fantastic women.
Wonderful femmes Shingai Shoniwa from the Noisettes, La Roux and an ol' fave of mine, Karin Dreijer of The Knife all have new material out this year. Dreijer's offering as part of Fever Ray has been dubbed spooky by Stuart at My Chemical Toilet. Whatever, it's just the brooding kind of thing to listen to during this miserable icy month.
The video features children in '50s clothes, a dead woman in a coral dress, chandeliers and spooky African style masks. Now if that's not an awesome bit of fashion inspiration I'll eat mon chapeau. Give it a play, it's even better fullscreen!
