Helen Mirren calls for the return of the sleeved dress

Dame Helen Mirren.jpgDame Helen Mirren has put the call-out for sleeves to return to dresses.

The actress is apparently so adamant about the issue, that she is even considering starting her own clothing line.

"Dresses With Sleeves," is what she told the Telegraph she would call her range. "There are no dresses with sleeves and we need to bring back the sleeve: fine, see-through ones, long or short. There are so many wonderful things you can do with sleeves that people used to do, and then they stopped."

I can see her point. Certainly as we grow older, a sleeve is not only practical (hello we are in the UK!) but often, at times, essential. What are your thoughts? Do you agree that there is a lack of sleeved dresses on the high street? Tell us below.

My mother struggles with this all the time. She had gastric bypass surgery a few yers ago and lost more then I even weight, so now she has extra skin and has not been able to have the surgery to get rid of it yet (insurance issues as always). She is embarassed by her arms. I would love to see dresses with sleeves for her so she can feel pretty in a dress and not have to wear a jacket as a cover up. Also, I wouldnt mind a dress with sleeves once in a while, just for somethng different to wear.

I'm also constantly lamenting this! Why are winter party dresses sleeveless? Even most of the clubs I've been in are too cold for it, and it's quite hard to match a party dress with a cover up looks all right. That doesn't even mention day-to-day dresses - the eternal question of long-sleeved shirt under or cardigan over? And I hate covering it up and screwing up the line of it with a cardigan! We wear long-sleeved shirts in the fall and winter and then are supposed to exchange them for sleeveless dresses. It's... stupid.

Dame Helen is my hero. As a person who produces no body heat (except during hot flashes), I would applaud the return of the sleeve. It would be the best thing to happen to fashion since tights replaced the "Sex and the City"-bare-legs-in-January look.
