Bye, bye Bill Blass: Label closes its doors for good
Bill Blass has been on shaky ground ever since Peter Som left in October, and maybe even before then. Now reports are telling us that the American label is shutting its doors for good.
According to The New York Times, its parent company NexCen Brands Inc. has been unable to sell the brand, forcing it into liquidaton last month. Now it appears its the end of the road, with the company closing down its showroom at Seventh Avenue, and letting go its remaining staff this week.
Bill Blass was forced to forego its spring/summer '09 collection, prompting Som to quit. He has not yet been replaced. Despite recent events, NexCen executives are still believed to be trying to sell the brand, in the hope that another buyer will save its runway collection at the eleventh hour. These are tough times indeed.
