Whoever wrote the invites to the 2008 American Music Awards must have specified in the dress code for frocks to be short or metallic (preferably short AND metallic) as that's what seemed to be the most popular choice for music's leading ladies on the red carpet last night (although Natasha Bedingfield seemed to have missed that memo!)

Rihanna was the big winner on the femme side of things, picking up Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues categories (beau Chris Brown won the male equivalent categories along with the big one: Artist of the Year) and continued to surprise and delight in her awards show fashion choices with this girlish layered dress being a complete contrast to her raunchier PVC-clad stage costumes.
