Peter Som ends tenure at Bill Blass
After months of speculation, Peter Som is finally bidding farewell as creative director of womenswear at Bill Blass. The designer left the label a week and a half ago when his contract expired.
"This was an extremely difficult decision for me," Som said. "At this time, however, I have chosen to focus on my own namesake collection and the development of the Peter Som brand."
Whispers of his departure began in July, when it was reported that Som was considering resigning. He continued to work with NexCen Brands Inc. to determine the best way to present Bill Blass's spring/summer 2009 collection.
According to WWD, the label's decision to forego its runway show was the last straw for Som, who is said to be displeased at NexCen's inability to financially support the business. As for the sale of Bill Blass, sources have reported that it has taken longer than expected.
