Madonna and Guy Ritchie call it quits

Yesterday it was Chanel's gun-toting shoes, today it is divorce. Madonna and Guy Ritchie have confirmed what the world has long suspected, that they are ending their seven-and-a-half-year marriage.

Following tabloid reports, the couple released a joint statement yesterday announcing that they are to divorce. It read: "Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven-and-a-half years of marriage. They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time."

It is believed the couple's conflicting careers are responsible for the break-up. With Madonna currently on a world tour in America, and Guy about to start filming on the new Sherlock Holmes film, many are left to speculate just how the couple's £300 million fortune will be divvied up.
