Ivana Helsinki for Topshop tackles the tricky knitted dress

ivanahelsinki.jpgUp there with wet-look leggings, jumpsuits and cropped tops, knitted dresses are hard to pull off. Surprisingly for such thick garments, they have a strange way of showing off every lump and bump. They're also a pain in the arse to look after; most need to be hand-washed and dried flat to keep their shape (there's nothing worse than a wavy hem on a knitted item). And don't get me started on the inevitable bobbling.

I'd be willing to put up with the painful upkeep for Ivana Helsinki, though. The Finnish designer has taken a very girly dress shape with a Peter Pan collar and puff sleeves and injected a bit of edge with a corset style panel in a thick, twisted rib. The high acrylic content of the wool also means it's machine washable, which is good considering you'll be shelling out £75 for it at Topshop.

I really like the sleeves. I'm normally against puffy sleeves but these are relaxed looking and oh-so pretty. I don't care what they say about machine washable, I'd still be taking it to the dry cleaners.

I love the corset style bodice and puffed sleeves, which draws the eye to the top and away from the bottom. I also like the pleats just below the waiste. This is something I would feel comfortable wearing.
