Catwalk Queen at the opening of Westfield London

There's nothing I like better than getting up an hour earlier than normal on a freezing Thursday morning to go from my cosy South London flat to the wilds of Shepherd's Bush...

Ok, maybe not. But I did it, for you! This morning Isabelle and I headed to London's brand new Westfield shopping centre to snap the stores as they opened. And, of course, we got a bit of video too. Stay tuned for loads more Westfield news throughout the day.

I know! It's practically a small city in itself! I can believe there were thousands instore on Saturday though, it was bustling, and I got pretty squished during the little fashion/music show they put on. Although La Senza did a good job of competing for the biggest crowds: they had live models in lingerie posing in the shop window! Very Amsterdam. Had to dodge a hoard of drooling men there...

I was very impressed by the architecture and sheer space (and the food court!), although all the clothes shops were very mainstream (anything remotely 'quirky' came with a cost, it seems!). I'd definitely go back once it's a little less crazy to explore a little more!

  • PT - it did seem quieter than I expected. There were a lot more people when you got further into the centre, but I'd be surprised if there were the 'hundreds of thousands' that some of the newspapers have been reporting. I suppose they spread out quite quickly in such a huge place though.

Apparently Westfield is the biggest Urban shopping mall in Europe (the Bullring in Brum used to have that honour, once upon a time) which is quite scary to think. A part of me wonders how they found all that space in the middle of London! ;-)

How exciting! It is a bit surprising that the mall seems so empty behind you... but then again, everyone is still at work (like me. boo.)

I'm dying to take a gander, just 'cos I get disproportionaltely excited about anything new. But mostly I'm desperately wanting to check out the Inglot cosmetics store, which I've heard so much about. One for Kiss and Makeup, maybe...?
