Alber Elbaz is great at making grown-up clothes for the modern woman but his latest collection took a somewhat more whimsical route.

As designers across the pond sobered up to an economic recession and reduced the number of fashion risks they were prepared to take Elbaz seemed to have his head stuck somewhere between the clouds and in the sand. His usual skilful exaggerated shapes had gained a little childlike innocence, giving the collection a Borrowers-style feel.

External darts, rounded, scalloped shoulders and dresses wrapped and tucked like towels oozed a knowing naiveté. The playful shapes were complemented by sparkling shimmering prints and embroideries in bright colours. His classic woman was still there, it just looked like she'd been dressed by her extremely fashion savvy daughter...
