Paris Fashion Week: Christian Dior S/S 2009

Things turned a little wild at the Christian Dior show, with John Galliano offering up an African feast with his S/S 2009 collection. To the sound of drums, models stormed down the catwalk wearing high plaited buns in a less dramatic style than we have usually come to expect from the designer. Yes, it seems that the economy now cancels out the costume-y. 'Tribal chic' was the name of the game and so it was in a flurry of reds, pinks and oranges that Galliano's vision was based. He sent out chiffon dresses cinched in at the waist, jackets in reptile skins, animal print, and long evening gowns embellished with embroideries and jewels.

As a Galliano fan, I can't help but miss his old flamboyant ways, but know better than to expect even he to disregard the non-buying climate. It will surely appeal to his A-list front row clientèle which included Dita von Teese, Lily Allen and Eva Green.
