Milan Fashion Week: Gucci S/S 2009

Whether it will be to her detriment or not (I'm inclined to think the latter) Frida Giannini's S/S '09 show has sealed her as the master of merchandising - at least at the Wall Street Journal. There was no denying the commercial appeal of this collection, but in the current volatile economic climate, is that such a bad thing? It was obvious that travelling to exotic destinations was the flavour of the moment, with long swishy geometric-print dresses, brightly-coloured safari suits, fedoras, and a bit of python again (is anybody else worried yet that next summer we'll all be forced into snake crop tops?) But it was all in the accessories, where Gucci really thrives, with triple-strap platform sandals, ethnic jewellery, and swag backpacks.
