"Tom Ford is talented but not gifted," says Stefano Pilati

tomford_stefanopilatiinterview.jpgCurrent YSL creative director, Stefano Pilati, has let loose in this week's New York Times magazine on his thoughts about Tom Ford, who took over the reins as successor to the late Yves Saint Laurent. And let's just say, he doesn't hold back...

"Tom had a very precise vision of the company that didn't challenge women," he said. "Tom is talented but not gifted. That's the way he managed the business. Tom would say: 'We can't do this silhouette because she looks fat.' Or, 'Oh, no - women don't like this fabric; we can't use it.' That mentality was something to learn but was so far from my way of thinking. Why do you want to be safe? I'm more like: Why don't you wear grey flannel for an evening dress? I find that fantastic! Not Tom, never."

Next time, tell us what you really think Stefano. Jeepers!

i love to ford and everyhing he does

Women want a clothes designer to care about what looks good on a woman's body. They don't want to be Pilati's art project. Tom Ford's view sounds pretty perfect to me too!

tom forn made women look like sluts!

    that is not attractive!

he made simple clothes for high end whores!

Tom Ford was designing for women and cared about what women would like. I'll take Tom Ford's "talent" over Pilati's "so called gift" anyday.

  • So Tom Ford cares about what women WANT to wear and what they feel comfortable in? Sounds perfect to me
