Take your fashion inspiration from the guys
When I'm not writing for Catwalk Queen I'm also the editor of Brandish, our menswear site. I've learnt a lot from menswear and it's time for me to share my secrets.
Right now has never been a better time to get into menswear, lace-up shoes, boxy blazers and tailored trousers are all firmly established in the nation's wardrobes and after this summer's glut of ditsy florals the mood is slightly more sombre.
Wearing actual mens' clothes is always a good look, Uniqlo men's cardigans make the best slouchy cover ups and come in a wide range of colours. Topman do a great selection of slim fitted shirts and make sure to snap up something from their Lens designer collaboration which debuts this September.
Katie Holmes is the talk of the tabloids with her rolled up slouchy denim courtesy of hubbie Tom and teaming mannish items with luxe accessories is Karla from Karla's Closet trademark look.
If you're usually more of a girly girl try teaming your floral dresses with a boxy mannish blazer, Topshop have had some great examples and their boyfriend jacket (£45) features rolled sleeves for a nonchalant vibe. Alexa Chung has been wearing her summer dresses with oxblood loafers which is a much more modern and unexpected pairing, what's more the early '80s punk/rudeboy look is going to be big news this autumn. As the weather starts to turn experiment with girly touches like trying a floral scarf with Asos' tailored trousers (£28) and a pair of brogues.
