Where the it crowd go, others follow. When Jaime Winstone turned up at the Empire Film Awards in a fitted dress with a contrasting skater skirt over the top, we weren't sure it was a trend that would catch on. Oh, how wrong we were!
Skirted pencil dresses are now popping up on the high street, with offerings from some of our most-featured brands. Topshop have gone dotty with a black t-shirt dress topped with a polka dot prom mini (£50) while Miss Selfridge have gone all-out with a skirted animal print lampshade dress (45), which also features in the promo shots for the new collection.
Expect to see plenty more of these styles as we move into winter. Of course, you can copy it on the cheap with a fitted slip and your favourite mini skirt.
