jessicasimpson_criticised.jpg Jessica Simpson is apparently adding a collection of dresses to her growing brand.

This seems like the next logical step. After all, she already has an extensive back catalogue of footwear, swimwear, accessories, and of course, lingerie, to her name. There is also a fragrance due out this autumn.

But after recent, rather unfair, criticisms in the press that her style resembled that of a porn-star, thanks to a cleavage-enhancing dress that she wore on a trip to Lake Tahoe (pictured right), I can't help but wonder whether a range of frocks will be worth the singer/actress's while.

Not that I shared in the criticisms. It wasn't the worst thing in the world that she could have worn, say unlike Jodie Marsh's infamous belt-as-a-skirt number. Nevertheless, Simpson's shoe range, the most successful facet of her brand, looks set to reap US$250 million at retail this year. Who's to say the same won't apply to her dresses?

A deal is set to go ahead between Camuto Group, the license holder of her brand, and G-III Apparel Group to produce a line of contemporary dresses under her name. The collection is slated to launch spring 2009 in the U.S., and hit stores in autumn 2009.

"I'm extremely excited to be expanding into the dress market," Simpson said. "I plan on creating beautiful dresses in distinctive fabrics and silhouettes that are reflective of my personal style and offer something special to the marketplace."

Who knows? Perhaps porn-star will be the new black...?!
