You may remember us discussing Isla Moda, the Dubai island devoted entirely to fashion (how could you forget that?) Well, it appears that the island has got its first designer interior decorator, with Karl Lagerfeld putting his hand up to create 80 homes on the man-made fashion floater. Another five yet-to-be-named designers will soon follow suit.

"Dubai is a fashion bud on the verge of blossoming into the next fashion hub of the world. The city is alive with culture and rich in personality, making a perfect place for aesthetic, fashion and design to flourish," Karl gushes.

With all this talk of fashion-themed restaurants, boutiques, luxury hospital facilities (how does one glamorise health care exactly?) and VVIP (Very Very Important Person) services, it really does sound like excess at its most obscene. Or just a really bad reality TV show, if you ask the Guardian's Hadley Freeman:

"If it really is an encapsulation of the fashion world, then surely this must be a land of flying jewelled BlackBerrys (reference: Naomi), where dodgy rock-star boyfriends lurk behind every plastic tree and everything runs at least four days late."

Yikes! Correction on my last post - I'll pass on the VVIP list, thanks!
