Helen Mirren won't shop at Primark because it's "immoral"
When it comes to fashion, Dame Helen Mirren is more than happy to speak her mind. Previously, the actress has spoken out on the issue of size zero, and now she is offering her thoughts on Primark, which has recently been at the centre of a child labour storm.
"I won't buy from Primark. It's tempting, but immoral," she said, while attending the Christian Lacroixcouture show this week. "I'd rather go to jumble sales and buy secondhand than buy slave-labour clothes."
As another alternative to shopping budget high street retailers such as Primark, the star of The Queen, reveals that she is a handy with a needle and thread.
"I make my own clothes, because I never found the kinds of things I liked. My mother taught me how to work a sleeve and make a placket. Of course, those were the pre-Primark days," she added, having also attended this week's Armani Prive show (pictured above, left).
If only the rest of us had been taught the same... sigh!
