Grazia heads Down Under

grazia_oz.jpgAs regular readers of Grazia magazine (that is, when our copy hasn't mysteriously wandered out of the office) we were interested to hear that the gossip weekly has branched out Down Under.

This week marks the official launch of Grazia Australia, headed by former Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief, Alison Veness-McGourty.

Being in Oz myself right now, I managed to get my hands on a copy as soon as it hit the newsstands on Monday, and my first thoughts? Not too shabby.

Its debut issue is a decent-size (page-wise) and features the right mix of celeb fashion, gossip, product, and interviews. It even features a story on Brit's It-girls, in an identical format to its UK sister rag, and it leads with Kate Moss on its cover. (Perhaps they thought an Aussie celeb would be too risky).

Insider sources reveal that this is one of the biggest financial investments publishers ACP have poured into a magazine launch in Australia, which tells me that there are extremely high hopes for it doing well.

At AUS$5 it's a bit of a bargain (compared to other glossies here, trust me) and it should fair well against the other weeklies such as Famous. But with magazines folding every day, and more readers turning to the internet to get their fill of celebs and fashion, could this be the right time to launch a new mag?

I suppose only time will tell. One thing is for certain though, its website is a damn sight better that what British Grazia currently has to offer.

BRILLIANT! This is a very good day indeed. That's one thing I can remove from my list of Reasons Not To Move Back To Australia.
