Christian Dior S/S '09 cruise collection
From our US fashion blog, Shiny Style...
John Galliano is currently visiting the States to collect an award from the Savannah College of Art, as well as to present his spring/summer '09 cruise collection for Christian Dior. Last night, the designer took to the catwalk at Gustavino's in New York wearing his usual outlandish dress to close a show that dazzled in colours, embellishments and animal prints. But was it just a rehashing of his last cruise collection?
Galliano incorporated elements of his Latin American roots in, yet another, brightly themed collection which strongly reminded me of his previous cruise '08 S/S collection. What was a nod to the '60s and Valley of the Dolls last time, was given a Mexican spin with pleated skirts, flouncy off-the-shoulder tops and colourful sombreros. His evening gowns were also given the flounce factor with full skirts, tiered layers, bows and embellished necklines. A stand-out feature was a series of gorgeous circular woven basket bags, but overall this was a repeat performance which left me feeling rather disappointed.
