Autumn / Winter 2008 - 9 press day preview: H&M

We've been hitting the press days left, right and centre over the last few weeks, getting a sneaky peek at what's in store for Autumn / Winter 2008 - 9. Now the sun is finally shining in London it's even more difficult to imagine wearing chunky knits, skater dresses and slouchy slacks, let along 80s style bodysuits (see Isabelle above, looking less than impressed)! High waists are still prominent, with puffy pencil skirts and paint-splattered body-con dresses on the rails. Knitwear reminded us of edgy Japanese designers...think Rei Kawakubo in the early 90s.

Coats had a 60s feel; egg shaped, shawl collared and brightly coloured, while dresses were short and skater-ish; we loved the knit dress on the left.

Finally, a few catwalk-inspired pieces. Harlequin is going to be huge come September, think Miu Miu as worn by Kirsten Dunst. Meanwhile, the belted sleeves jacket / waistcoat is a dead ringer for the same thing by Proenza Schouler, but much more affordable!

That black coat with the big collar is amazing - gotta get that when it arrives

  • I love that paint splatter dress!

Body suit? AAAARRRRRGGGHHHH! Do the Brits have a word for 'wedgie'? Not crazy about skater skirts for women over 25, either.

There's nothing wrong with an 80's leotard, I wear them under things all the time. They don't ride up like tops do, and enable you to sport a low cut back without the shoulders falling down. Don't dismiss the bodysuit!
