H&M announce collaboration with Comme des Garçons
The closest I've come to being this excited about an H&M collaboration is the forthcoming Marimekko collection, but the news that Comme Des Garçons are planning a collection with H&M surely tops them all.
The collection will include womenswear and menswear as well as accessories and a unisex fragrance which I can't wait to sniff! Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garçons' designer and founder is also producing a few children's pieces.
Margareta van den Bosch, who recently took semi-retirement but is still at H&M as creative advisor said: "Rei Kawakubo has been at the top of our wish list for a long time and we are thrilled that she has chosen to collaborate with us."
She added: "We have tremendous respect for Kawakubo's fashion philosophy of questioning fashion's ingrained patterns, and admire her artistic approach to design. We are particularly excited that the collection will be launched in Japan, Kawakubo's native country, at the same time as the launch of our new store there."
"I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business. It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it", said Rei Kawakubo,
I personally can't wait for this collection, like Martin Margiela Comme des Garçons is a designer's designer and so well-respected. Unlike previous H&M collaborations with Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto Cavalli I have absolutely no idea what to expect which makes it all the more exciting.
My only gripe is that the collection is launching in Tokyo first and will reach the rest of the world a few days later, I don't think I can wait that long!
