Thandie Newton wants us to buy vintage

80366002.jpgAny excuse to buy vintage clothing and I'm all ears... Thandie Newton wants us all to get a little bit greener by stocking up on secondhand clothing, instead of always purchasing new.

"It is grotesque how out of control manufacturing has become, and the excess, the pollution that's caused by it," the British actress said.

"Vintage (clothing) is not only glorious and stylish, it's also the way forward in terms of recycling. Whenever I go into great vintage stores, I wonder why we ever buy new things."

And she makes a point. Oxfam is currently running a terrific campaign, whereby if you donate your old M&S clothing, you will £5 off your next M&S purchase of £35 or more. It's a terrific way to preserve the environment and reduce landfill. Click here for more info.

Meanwhile, I wonder if Miss Newton would consider donating some of her old designer clobber to me? Say a few Matthew Williamson frocks...
