Rick Owens' talks art and influences
John Colapinto visited Rick Owens' Paris studio to take a look behind Owens' Rock and Roll look. With his long hair and distressed jeans the California-born designer looks more like a camp rockstar than one of fashion's best kept secrets. Owens told Colapinto: I know I'm not everybody's cup of tea, and I don't want to be.
Julie Gilhart, the fashion director at Barneys, went some way to explain Owens' appeal to Colapinto: He "doesn't advertise, he isn't all over the magazines, yet he appeals to a luxury customer. Even though he's not seen as a luxury brand, he is. He's the essence of insider exclusivity." Owens showed his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week last Monday which was heavily inspired by American sculptor Lee Bontecou. Zips and leather mimicked the artist's metal and fabric sculptures and created a luxe grunge look which Owens himself has coined Oglunge (grunge plus glamour). See after the jump for catwalk shots.
