Preview: H&M's Tribute to Marimekko collection

Last November, we told you that H&M had collaborated with Marimekko to create a 50-piece summer '08 collection. In its tribute to the Finnish textiles company, H&M has fused prints from the Marimekko archive to launch a '70s style range which bursts with colour.

The collection features retro-style pinafores, smocks, swimsuits, skirts and shorts, in colours including red, pink; olive, orange and turquoise. Prices range between £8 to £30. So in demand is this collection that Dover Street Market in London and 10 Corso Como in Milan have picked it up. H&M's Tribute to Marimekko range is due to hit stores 10th April, 2008

So what's my verdict? While I love the fact that the range uses archival Marimekko prints, I can't help but feel that the design lets it down. It retains that obvious H&M style, yet it feels a little dated to me. The colours are wonderfully vibrant but it does have the potential to come across slightly mumsy. What do you think?
