A subtle nautical look (with no anchors in sight)
Trying the nautical trend doesn't necessarily mean covering yourself in stripes, anchors and big gold buttons. If your look is a bit more subtle than that, you can easily nod to the theme without looking like you've walked out of a 'Hello Sailor' window display. The simple combo of silky top and wide-leg jeans is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Warehouse's jeans (£40) have added nautical matelot detailing and Monsoon's white top can be worn on smarter occasions with a pencil skirt and heels, making the £50 price tag easier to bear. Wide, heavy jeans call for chunkier shoes (slim heels will get lost) so New Look's hefty spotted wedges are perfect, and a bargain at £20. Finish with simple jewellery. The fussy neckline of the top means no space for a necklace, so bangles are a better option. These are from Miss Selfridge (£8 each).
