YSL are a luxury fashion house that has never believed in firmly sticking to convention when it comes to reaching the public. Just as Yves Saint Laurent himself decided to stage the first show using a black model, YSL have deviated from the normal media spend in glossy mags to pioneer a more 'democratic', multifaceted route to reach a wider demographic. As a result, the 'Manifesto' was born last year; a booklet featuring the A/W 2007-8 ad campaign with Gisele Bunchen.
The positive response following its free street distribution during Fashion Week in London, New York, Paris and Milan has prompted the production of the 'second Manifesto' for S/S '08. The most exciting bit? A travelling installation of life-size images from this season's 'Manifesto' will be open to the public this weekend (22-23 Feb) at the Dray Walk Gallery, part of Old Truman Brewery, in Shoreditch.
To complete this new, holistic approach to YSL's advertising, a special behind-the scenes 'Manifesto' video will premiere on February 25th, exclusively on YSL's website. Meanwhile, click on to see a still from the film...
