After Isabelle spotted Masha Tyelna yesterday, I was looking forward to having my own first sighting of the incredible bush baby-eyed model. Around my neck of the woods, she’s something of a legend, so I was pretty psyched when I spotted the googly wonder opening Louise Goldin’s show yesterday. My favourite new model plus favourite New Gen designer – we’re onto something here, guys.
Since graduating from fashion powerhouse, Central St Martins in 2005, New Gen winner Goldin has made a name for herself with her sexy knitwear, this should be an oxymoron, I know, but somehow she makes it work. After last season’s technicolour extravaganza, things have taken a turn to the dark side for Autumn/Winter, with grey, blue and black dominating.

The bodycon look which she championed last season was still here, but this season it was tougher, with sharp shoulders, graphical prints, and the odd bit of PVC (what is it with designers and PVC? Bunch of perverts). The collection had an overriding feel of robots, quite possibly even robots in disguise. Dresses and sweaters featured graphical drawings of panels, whilst an outfit consisting of a padded shrug worn over an all in one suit was pure Optimus Prime armour.

The collection closed with a series of fur-trimmed coats, possibly from that episode when the Transformers headed up the Arctic (check it out on YouTube!). These were pure '70s skiwear, with quilting, pom poms, an overload of orange and brown patterns, and big old furry hoods. Skiwear? Futuristic eskimos? '70s? It’s all wrong, but somehow it was all so right. First up on the catwalk, generally means last out for a model, so I was of course delighted to see good old Masha closing the show, thankfully minus ski goggles.
