London Fashion Week A/W 2008-09: Jean-Pierre Braganza
After nearly ending up at the wrong location, I managed to arrive at the Jean-Pierre Braganza show just in the nick of time. Held at Mango's mega-store on Oxford Street, I was more than eager to see what Jean-Pierre, at designer involved in the Australian Wool Innovation-sponsored Protegé Project, had in store for us. Thankfully, all my running up and down Oxford Street paid off, as we were treated to an exciting, intricately made unisex collection that actually got you thinking instead of simply just witnessing.
Inspired by the "shadows of the imagination", Braganza's futuristic world comprised mostly of a black palette with the odd hint of fuschia pink, grey and cream. Double-layered merino wool was panelled with PVC-like material, and crepe designed for draping.
Everything was structured from the shoulders to the hips, in cocoon-shaped dresses, jackets and skirts, helping to highlight Bragazna's inspiration - the human body. Notable features included open pockets, exposed zips and thick piping which wove around the body to reflect the body's anatomy. Stand-outs included a grey and black cut-out panel dress (above, left) and his array of newly-structured suit jackets (above, right). Karl Lagerfeld as your mentor seems to be working for him!
