London Fashion Week A/W 2008-9: Gareth Pugh

Coco Rocha looked almost unrecognisable leading the procession at Gareth Pugh's A/W 08-09 collection wearing a samurai-inspired dress made entirely from zips. Other familiar catwalk faces like Agyness Deyn were equally unrecognisable made up with white faces, blue lips and brows.

Strict tailoring, exaggerated shoulders and an almost entirely monochrome palette made me think that Pugh is adamantly sticking to the tough trend even though it wasn't such a success on the High Street.

Pugh did make some sneaky concessions to the threatening theme as dresses made entirely from safety pins actually looked ethereally beautiful. Goat hair was used to create US football-style shoulders but concealed wearable tailored wrap coats and dresses.

Personally the most interesting part of the collection was the origami printed outfits; the stiff triangles created rippling volume and shape which you could easily see translating into edgy evening wear.

I would LOVE to see the real life wearable version of that collection, the colours and tailoring was amazing.
