London Fashion Week A/W 2008-9: Rodnik
Sticking around in the East End on Wednesday, I wandered down to Rodnik at Village Underground on Great Eastern Street. All the shows were running late and the assembled press looked weary, and strangely sober for ten-ish in the evening.
The space was filled with a stage on which there were several microphones and a drum kit. No catwalk. Odd, I thought – where are the models going to go?
It became clear as the “band” ran out and started “playing” (most of it lip-synched, no instruments actually got played). Then the models came out, danced around the stage a bit, posed at the end, then exited stage.
So what were the clothes like? Keep reading to find out...

Pray silence for more comedic press release spiel, “we are NOT a rock band we ARE a rock brand”. They’re right on the first count, but then why should they be a rock band? I thought they were meant to be fashion designers. On the second point, the dictionary definition of “brand” is “a distinctive type or kind of something”. There was nothing very distinctive about this collection. It could have been Topshop for all I knew. But having not come from a fashion background, the designers admitted they avoided designing pieces that weren't too technical. Understandable but I couldn't help but find it all a bit contrived, though if I was to observe it as a bit of a jolly then I guess it was quite good fun.
