London Fashion Week A/W 2008-9: Marios Schwab
It was a case of the hot model shuffle at the Marios Schwab show yesterday, where extra-long column dresses forced models to hobble along the catwalk in a very steady stream. His obsession with the female form saw hemlines fall to the ankles, giving body-con a whole new meaning... these dresses were skinny, skin tight! While it might have been enough to send the everyday woman screaming into the back shadows, for its technique, it was definitely worth the early morning queue-up in the freezing cold.
It must be said, Schwab is pretty darn handy with a pair of scissors, with dresses intricately cut to feature new fabrics and materials. From afar it almost appears as though they have been slashed, instead of panelled. Cropped jackets against the long form-fitting dresses, produced an interesting silhouette.
Schwab joins fellow New Gen designer Christopher Kane in raising the bar for the UK's young designers. While Schwab's collection was mesmerising and left you grappling to understand why, watching the models struggle to walk did, at times, distract more than it should have.
