Sure it’s still officially winter but with the spring 2008 clothing ranges hitting stores this month, I say we be very optimistic and shop for beach cover ups, otherwise known as kaftans. Whether you want a full length kaftan, or something short and slinky, here are some of my favourite online now.
1. Elizabeth Hurley beaded cheetah print kaftan (£365). This is for a woman who wants to stand out (or who dares to wear white trousers) and has the bling or jade jewellery to turn up the vamp factor at a luxury resort.
2. French Connection Carnival kaftan (£40). This fun loose fitting kaftan features a nice and subtle floral print it can take you from the beach to a nice beach side bar for after sun drinks. Perfect if you’re on holidays and don’t want to rush back to your room to change.
3. French Connection Paradise dress (£50). I love this kaftan. It’s super long – perfect for keeping in with the maxi trend – while the pattern and cut are subtle but still very pretty. The empire line will help elongate your body and it’s a would look great with a pair off strappy heels which gives you some options for holiday wear.
4. Missoni short dress with zig zag print (£365). Now this dress was found in the beach cover-up section of Browns’ website and we totally agree with the site that this would work as a beach cover up. It’s loose but in a mix of some fabulous shades of colour and ties in at the waist, it would look great on any young stylish girl. Think Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan and add some gold sandals and bangles.
5. Topshop Swallow Cross Back Cover Up (£20). This beach cover-up may look a little simple, but not every girl loves the look of a kaftan, so this is for her. Cut as a simple tank dress with a flippy skirt, it features a swallow print with a coss back detail. This dress is so cute that it could work as every day wear, which is another versatile summer holiday piece.
