M&S CEO Stuart Rose to be knighted in the New Years Honours

Stuart Rose must be excited to be back at work today as the news of his place in the New Year honours list is announced. Rose, who is to be knighted "for services to the retail industry and to corporate social responsibility", will now feel on a par with his retail rival Sir Philip Green. Green received his honour eighteen months ago for his work with the Arcadia group.

Stuart Rose has made big changes at Marks and Spencer and turned around the profits. He has also pledged £200 million into green initiatives - such as transforming the business into a carbon neutral operation and using out-of-date food as a source of recyclable energy - over five years to 2011.

Jasper Conran and Karen Millen also feature in the New Years honours list and we receive OBEs. River Island executive Richard Bradbury and Warehouse Group owner Maurice Bennet will also receive CBEs.
