When adding a silk scarf, take a cue from Rachel Bilson
Many of us are inclined to want to wear a silk scarf because Alexander McQueen’s scull scarf was so popular. There’s nothing like wearing a must have item, or carrying one. But when it comes to silk scarves, my new philosophy is that the colours should compliment the wearer.
Take this picture of Rachel Bilson for example, it would be very cliché/Hollywood starlet for her to wear a McQueen skull scarf, but instead she chooses to drape a scarf around her neck that gives her outfit some colour and matches her chestnut brown hair. So if you do come across a beautiful scarf that complements your skin tone and hair colour, why not give it a go?

Like make up, certain colours suit certain skin tones best, so keep in mind what coloured eyeshadows look good on you and take it from there with scarves.
Basically if you’re a brunette you’ll be looking at deep purples, green, and warm earthy tones, like the two scarves pictured above on the left (green scarf is from Gucci, $260; brown swirl scarf also from Gucci, $256).
If you’re a blonde, try colours that lean more to the pastel or neutral side, like the ones pictured above on the right (blue scarf is Hermes, $292; brown/pink swirl scarf is Gucci, $256).
P.S. Try to stick to patterns rather than a one coloured scarf, it will help jazz up the outfit beautifully. With that in mind, I’m off to my local vintage shops to go digging in scarf bins for myself!
