While winter fashion dishes out a healthy dose of tailored options, we're also witnessing a new kind of laid back style which can only be described as a little bit lumberjack and a little bit grunge. The usual 'throw it on' scenesters - Kate Moss and the Olsen twins - are simply eating up this trend which had a recent spell on the London catwalks at Luella's spring/summer '08 show. Not quite Kurt Cobain and not quite woodcutter, the new lumberjack/grunge style picks up on a simple check shirt mixed with a pair of Roper boots or Doc Martens and your favourite knitted beanie.
Celebs such as Keira Knightley and Kate Bosworth have been spotted in their flannelet paid shirts like this one at Topshop for £25. And it seems that everyone is raving over Roper boots all of a sudden, including the likes of Rachel Bilson and Lindsay Lohan - get yours from Boot Barn for US$71.99.
A decent pair of worn out boyfriend style jeans will automatically take you back to your Nirvana days and Urban Outfitters have a great pair for US$29.99 as well as the striped beanie for US$28.
Finally, a chunky knit cardigan or hoodie will add more layers reminiscent of last year's Marc Jacobs fall collection. I like this loose grey hoodie also from Urban Outfitters for US$38.
If all else fails, try the menswear department... seriously!
