The new Marks & Spencer holiday commercial - does it get you in the Christmas shopping mood?

Unlike the new Tesco's holiday ad featuring the Spice Girls playing hide n' seek (cringe!), the new Marks & Spencer Christmas commercial is actually rather good. Starring the usual M&S troupe, i.e. Elizabeth Jagger, Erin O'Connor, Twiggy, Laura Bailey and Noemie Lenoir - this year's festive advert adopts an old Hollywood film style. It also stars Antonio Banderas in a Carey Grant/Humphrey Bogart type of role as classic film reels are cleverly re-enacted to feature the famous faces. Think Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Erin O'Connor as Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. Personally, I couldn't think of a better way to see in the party season!

It's extremely well done. All the visual stylistic elements from the era and from the specific films are spot-on. I'm very impressed and it's nice to see something so, er, film-literate.

Oh, and Antonio Banderas is a fox.

I just love it. Brilliant production. Great casting and props. Authentic costumes and makeup. Catchy music. More importantly it lights up my 2-year old son's face in such a priceless way. I've good on DVD just for that reason!
